PICTURES WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

PROPERTIES OF LIGHT was a hyper-novel before there were such things: a hundred short chapters united not by chronological plot, but by verbal and visual "rhymes" and correspondences. Technology has caught up to the book: a book which is very much about a photographer's spirit catching up to his mastery of his technology.

EACH CHAPTER of the book is the narrator's description of a picture he has taken over his career; from high school yearbook to Pulitzer winner, to the odd and empty space that lies behind that focal point.

The first chapter, immediately below this, is the lead-in to the series of images, an exploration of his range of viewpoint versus his time of exposure.

LIQUIDATION

Anything you see is for sale. Those boxes hold my professional work and those portfolios are my more personal shots. All prints are matted but unframed since I could get more images in a box that way. I've kept all the negatives, so I could make a larger print if someone really wanted it, but mostly it's just what you see here. Close-out prices till it's all gone. I'm not really in this business anymore. I'm just a tourist with no camera now, an artist without portfolio--out of the picture. This box is mostly fashion and glamor shots, that one is all journalistic, these are scenics and nature shots; but they're a little mixed up thematically and chronologically. If you have questions about any image, I can tell you about it. One thing I've found out in my photo career is that there's always more than meets the eye. You could call this a sidewalk sale of my entire career--actually my entire life. It's quite a relief at that. And it's been getting me out on the street here, talking to people. I'm enjoying it. Make me an offer on anything. Any picture here is worth at least a thousand words.
